Thursday evening, 4th of September. A crisp breeze whispers through the city of Mainz , and the city is buzzing with excitement. For the SYSGO Real-Time Performance team, this isn’t just any Thursday—it’s the evening of the Mainz Company Run (In German: Mainzer Firmenlauf), our much-awaited team event combining sport, celebration, and pure fun.
The event—open to companies, institutions, and organizations across the region—draws thousands for a 5 km run through Mainz’s heart, blending team spirit with health and community. Around 9,450 participants. The atmosphere was electric: Two start waves, a scenic and flat urban course.
We gathered in the late afternoon, exchanging high-fives and last-minute shoe-tying rituals. The team captain, sporting our specially designed running shirts—“Real-Time Performance”—handed out our personalized bibs and goodies. There was a sparkle of friendly rivalry as we compared bib numbers and team sizes.
At exactly 19:08:12, our wave set off into the lively streets of Mainz.
Every step felt gratifying—not just for the pace, but for the companionship. We started as a group of techies and turned into "athletes", laughing, encouraging each other, and soaking in the energy of the city. The route guided us past some of the city’s most iconic spots, with cheering crowds and music creating an incredible atmosphere along the way. Water stations gave us a welcome refresh before we crossed the finish line together, tired but smiling.
Crossing the finish line felt like completing a mission—only this one ended in cheers, not debugging logs. There were jubilant high-fives, triumphant selfies and of course the best part: The after-run celebration—live beats and a collective glow of accomplishment under the Mainz night sky.
Reflections from our Teams
- Team Runtime: Special thanks to the supporting colleagues who took photos and welcomed the runners at the finish line. It was an enjoyable evening (except for the natural shower…).
- Team Execution: Great event, very well organized. Except there was heavy rain at the end, but still the after show party was a lot fun.
- Team Dynamic: Pleasant run through Mainz with great support from the crowd. Unfortunately the heavy rain kept the after-run party short... for next year, let's hope for a better weather and more runners.
Measured against nearly 9,450 participants, the SYSGO team clocked in within the top first third (best place is at 918th position) — proving that our real-time performance isn’t just in our software, but also on the track.
What a great Event
The Mainz Company Run—Mainzer Firmenlauf—proved to be not just a run, but a shared community adventure: 5 km of laughter, a city cheering us on, and the kind of team bonding that no office coffee break can replicate.
That’s captured in the rallying theme: “Laufend Gutes tun” which translates to “Running for Good.” For every runner who signs up, 1 € is donated to support local, charitable projects and initiatives.
As we reflect on the evening, we’re already planning for next year—with that same unbeatable spirit. Real-Time Performance? Yes, definitely! Or even Real-Time Passion—when we run, we’re in sync.
