Advancing Cybersecurity for the Space Industry
Last week, the SYSGO team had the pleasure of attending CYSAT Europe 2026 in Paris — Europe’s leading event dedicated to cybersecurity for the space sector.
Bringing together satellite operators, aerospace manufacturers, cybersecurity experts, institutional stakeholders, and technology innovators, CYSAT once again proved to be a key meeting point for discussing the future of secure space infrastructure.
A growing Focus on Space Cybersecurity
As satellite systems become increasingly interconnected and software-defined, cybersecurity is rapidly evolving from a technical consideration into a strategic necessity. Across the conference, discussions highlighted the growing importance of resilient architectures, secure communications, threat detection, regulatory readiness, and long-term lifecycle security for mission-critical systems.
This year’s event strongly emphasized the intersection of innovation and regulation — especially as Europe continues shaping its cybersecurity framework for the space ecosystem.
For SYSGO, this was the perfect opportunity to exchange insights with industry experts and showcase how embedded software security can contribute to building more resilient space systems.
SYSGO Presentation: CRA and the EU Space Act
One of the highlights for our team was the presentation delivered on Day 2 of the conference:
How the CRA (Cyber Resilience Act) Can Help Cover the Resilience Pillar for the EU Space Act
The session explored how the upcoming Cyber Resilience Act (CRA) aligns with the resilience objectives of the future EU Space Act.
Since June 2025, the European Union has accelerated activities around the EU Space Act, focusing on three major pillars:
- Safety
- Resilience
- Sustainability
At the same time, the CRA is establishing a new cybersecurity framework that defines the responsibilities of suppliers and manufacturers regarding secure products and long-term cybersecurity support.
During the presentation, we discussed:
- How CRA requirements apply to the space market
- The relationship between CRA compliance and the EU Space Act resilience pillar
- Key milestones introduced by the CRA
- The distinction between commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) products and tailor-made developments
- How secure operating systems can support cybersecurity-by-design principles in space applications
We also presented how PikeOS can support customers through different project phases — from certified products and customized developments to long-term lifecycle accompaniment.
Looking ahead
Events like CYSAT confirm that cybersecurity is now a central pillar of the future space economy. As regulatory frameworks mature and technical complexity increases, robust and certifiable software foundations will play a crucial role in ensuring mission resilience.
We would like to thank the organizers of CYSAT Europe 2026 for hosting another successful edition and everyone who visited us for the engaging discussions throughout the event.
The SYSGO team is looking forward to continuing these conversations and helping shape the future of secure space systems.
