On 18 November 2025, the TRISTAN consortium convened for a project meeting focused on technical progress, ecosystem contributions, and upcoming collaborative activities. As part of the agenda, SYSGO delivered a video presentation outlining its product portfolio and recent contributions to the TRISTAN project and the broader European RISC-V ecosystem.
SYSGO Product Portfolio
SYSGO introduced its core operating system offerings, highlighting their relevance for secure, safety-critical, and industrial RISC-V applications:
- ELinOS Embedded Linux: ELinOS is SYSGO’s embedded Linux distribution, designed for professional embedded system development. It includes a dedicated IDE, comprehensive toolchain support, and an optimized development workflow, making it suitable for building customized Linux-based embedded platforms.
- PikeOS RTOS and Hypervisor: PikeOS is a real-time operating system combined with a separation hypervisor. It enables strong partitioning by providing distinct, secure, and safety-certified execution environments. This architecture supports high levels of certification, including Common Criteria (EAL5+) and functional safety standards. SYSGO also provides certification kits to support compliance processes.
Contributions to the RISC-V Ecosystem
SYSGO outlined several concrete technical contributions made within the scope of TRISTAN:
Hardware and Debug Support
- Contribution to the Trace TIP interface, developed in collaboration with the University of Bologna and Thales
- Enhanced debugging support for the CVA6 core, including integration with industry-standard tools such as Lauterbach
Operating System Enablement on RISC-V
- Official release of ELinOS as a RISC-V product
- Extension of PikeOS hypervisor support across a growing range of RISC-V platforms
Board and Platform Support
SYSGO has expanded its baseline support to include:
- SiFive platforms
- PolarFire SoC
- Rocket Core
- QEMU
- CVA6 (single-core and dual-core configurations)
Demonstration Applications
SYSGO presented demonstrations showcasing application payloads in domains such as:
- Automotive
- IoT
- Smart home systems
Safety, Security, and Certification Strategy
A key focus of SYSGO’s contribution is its modular certification approach. The generic PikeOS core has already been certified across multiple architectures. For RISC-V systems, only a minimal interface layer requires certification, significantly reducing effort and cost for achieving standards such as Common Criteria, ASIL D, etc. SYSGO emphasized its openness to collaborating with core providers to enable certified RISC-V systems.
Additionally, ELinOS can operate as a guest operating system on PikeOS, enabling mixed-criticality systems that combine Linux workloads with safety-critical applications.
Alignment with TRISTAN Objectives
The TRISTAN project aims to expand, mature, and industrialize the European RISC-V ecosystem to compete with established commercial alternatives. SYSGO’s contributions directly support these goals by providing production-ready operating systems, tooling, certification pathways, and reusable IP.
SYSGO reaffirmed its commitment to continued collaboration within TRISTAN and to advancing secure, safety-certified RISC-V solutions for industrial deployment.
