MPC5200 with ELinOS – MEN and SYSGO offer Turn-Key Solution for Mobile Applications

Hardware manufacturer MEN Mikro Elektronik from Nuremberg and Mainz based software house SYSGO are teaming up to provide consistent Linux PowerPC solutions. The new ELinOS 4.0 now also includes the BSP for the automotive PowerPC MPC5200 ESM (Embedded System Module) EM1 and EM1A from MEN.

“A fast design start today is more important than ever“, explain Susanne Kämpgen, SYSGO, and Barbara Schmitz, MEN, about their cooperation in the Custom Board Support Program. “Our turn-key hardware/software solution makes it possible to start product design without delays, support for hardware and software is guaranteed for the entire project cycle.”

EM1 (with front I/O) and EM1A (with rear I/O) are System-On-Modules that can be used in many different systems using application-specific carrier boards. At 384 MHz clock frequency, the EM1’s MPC5200 processor provides 700 MIPS and needs less than 1 Watt of power. Equipped with soldered DRAM, Flash, SRAM and graphics memory, the standard EM1 is supplied for an operation temperature of -40 to +85°C. The card has 2 Fast Ethernet, 1 RS232 and 1 USB at the front. 2 CAN controllers are supported by the MPC5200 and are available on the EM1. Additional functions such as graphics, further COMs etc. are implemented in the on-board FPGA to the needs of the application and can even be changed dynamically at run-time.

ELinOS from SYSGO is the perfect software environment for MEN’s ESM modules:
Due to its Eclipse-based CODEO tool chain, ELinOS 4.0 opens up not only low-level system software design but also application design and offers the COGNITO system browser as a tool to analyze system run-time behavior.

The emphasis of version 4.0 is on the consistent enhancement of ELinOS regarding an optimum added-value management in software design. Apart from a completely redesigned tool chain that integrates all tools as IDE under CODEO, it is also significant that ELinOS is now integrated into the PikeOS operating system platform. This allows a cross-platform added value that protects software investments and reduces design cost on a long-term basis.
