SYSGO demonstrating PikeOS 3.4 on Multi-Core ARM-based Platforms

SYSGO, a leading supplier of software solutions for the world’s most demanding safety and security embedded applications, will show its new 3.4 version of the certified hypervisor PikeOS running on Freescale’s i.MX6 based tablet and Xilinx’s Zynq-7000 All Programmable SoC based board at ARM TechCon in Santa Clara, CA on October 29-31.

SYSGO has announced availability of its new 3.4 release of PikeOS on the market. The 3.4 release expands the scope of this SSV (Safe and Secure Virtualization) based RTOS and hypervisor product to include new hardware platforms support, enhanced “Guest OS”, and new and enhanced functionality across existing features, such as improved SMP support for multi-core platforms.

Most importantly, the 3.4 release is the baseline for a new safety-critical certified version of PikeOS. PikeOS is the first hypervisor in the world to be certified according to a safety standard at the highest level on a multi-core system: PikeOS received the certificate from TÜV-SÜD for an EN 50128 SIL 4 certification that has been delivered as part of the development of a railway application to be deployed in 2014.

PikeOS has been running on ARM architectures since the beginning in 2006. At the ARM TechCon conference in Santa Clara, SYSGO will show PikeOS running on two ARM Cortex™A9-MP multi-core platforms, the i.MX6 from Freescale and Zynq-7000 All Programmable SoC from Xilinx.

  • The demonstrator SYSGO is presenting on i.MX6 platform shows how PikeOS makes use of ARM TrustZone® capability by using PikeOS as the Secure World operating system and Android 4.0.1 as the Normal World operating system.
  • The demonstrator SYSGO is presenting on Zynq-7020 board shows how PikeOS can handle 4 different partitions running in parallel, including two full-blown Linux environments, one POSIX® based application and one PikeOS Native real-time application.

”The ability for SYSGO PikeOS software to address safety-critical designs with multi-core processors complements the hardware design and flexibility of Xilinx Zynq-7000 All Programmable SoC”, said Dave Beal, Senior Product Manager at Xilinx. “This combination of software and hardware promises to speed development of solutions within transportation, industrial, and aerospace and defense markets.”

SYSGO is committed to provide safe and secure virtualization on ARM devices by leveraging the latest hardware virtualization features on: Cortex A15, Cortex A5X and emerging ARMv8-A and ARMv8-R architectures.

About PikeOS

PikeOS is both an RTOS (Real-Time Operating System) and a hypervisor built upon the Safe and Secure Virtualization (SSV) technology that enables multiple operating system interfaces, called Guest OS, to work safely and securely on separate sets of resources within a single machine. PikeOS has the largest range of supported Guest OS of the market, including PikeOS Native, ARINC 653, Linux, POSIX®, Certified POSIX®, Android™, RTEMS, AUTOSAR, iTRON and others.

The PikeOS microkernel architecture allows it to be used in cost sensitive, resource constrained devices as well as large, complex systems. The simplicity and compactness of the PikeOS design results in real-time performance that competes head-to-head with conventional proprietary RTOS solutions. PikeOS supports single- and multi-core processor architectures. Support of multi-core offers a flexible approach to the user who can select an execution model ranging from a pure AMP (Asymmetric Multi Processing) to full SMP (Symmetric Multi Processing).

PikeOS is certifiable to safety standards like DO-178B/C, IEC 61508, EN 50128, IEC 62304 or ISO 26262, is MILS compliant, and is currently involved in various security standard Common Criteria EAL certification projects.
