For the first time, Stäubli Sargans AG is using embedded Linux for the development of a weaving preparation machine for the textile industry. The company Stäubli Sargans AG has worked closely with the Mainz-based Linux specialists SYSGO. All system requirements such as touch operation, network functionality and web server for administration purposes were realised with Linux - for the time-critical parts, the real-time extension RTAI was used.

Honeywell is expanding its building automation solutions with a Linux-based controller. Honeywell commissioned the Mainz-based software house SYSGO to create the system software for the new member of the EXCEL 5000 OPEN family. The core of the hardware platform is based on a PowerPC CPU from Motorola, for which SYSGO developed the board support package, the drivers for the required peripherals and a boot loader. The application software is created in-house by Honeywell.

SYSGO has just completed the verification of a commercial real-time operating system for aerospace applications. The trades and documents ("artefacts") required for certification according to DO-178B Level A were handed over to the client Rockwell Collins, Inc., Cedar Rapids, USA. The project took a total of 3 years to complete.

SYSGO now offers special hardware programs for ELinOS - the most popular development program for Linux in Europe. Both programs are aimed at board manufacturers and OEMs who want to offer their customers a professional solution for Linux.

SYSGO is presenting at electronica with a focus on Embedded Linux and LynxOS.

SYSGO today reports the porting of ELinOS for Hitachi SH3 and MIPS processors. This brings ELinOS, the leading development environment for embedded Linux, into the area of microprocessors for communication applications and consumer electronics.

SYSGO AG - previously SYSGO Real-Time Solutions GmbH - was converted into a public limited company with retroactive effect from 01.01.2002. The previous managing directors Knut Degen, Robert Kaiser and Detlev Schaadt were appointed to the board of directors. At the same time, Jens Alsleben, responsible for Mergers & Acquisitions at Deutsche Bank in Frankfurt, was recruited as Chief Financial Officer.

ELinOS from SYSGO on PowerPC platforms from MEN. Enough has been written about the advantages of Embedded Linux. The advantages of PowerPC platforms are also well known. Together, they surpass any "Wintel" solution in terms of price, reliability and compactness. For this reason, MEN Mikro Elektronik and SYSGO have joined forces to present an unbeatable product family: SYSGO's ELinOS on all MEN's Kahlua II-based single-board computers.

The distribution for embedded Linux originating from Germany is now also available for ARM processors and will be presented to the public at Embedded Systems 2002. ELinOS has been extended by special functions tailored to the ARM architecture and will be available not only for Intel x86, PowerPC but also for the widely used ARM processors from March 2002.

Within 10 years, a business start-up by three engineers in the TechnologieZentrum Mainz became an economically sound company with 40 employees at three locations.

The embedded Linux distribution ELinOS has been equipped with additional real-time features.

Especially for programmers who are looking for an introduction to the development of embedded systems under Linux, SYSGO will offer training courses from September this year.

ELinOS, the German distribution and toolchain for embedded Linux is now available in English. Up to now, close to 500 companies are using ELinOS in the German speaking market, making ELinOS the best selling Embedded Linux toolchain in the region. ELinOS, the only distribution for embedded Linux to come from Germany so far, will be extended by numerous functions in version 2.0. For the first time, a German-language development environment is equipped with the kernel extension RTAI and enables the use of Linux in the environment of hard real-time tasks. In addition to the version for Intel processors, the development environment ELinOS is now also available for the PowerPC in German and English language versions.

The so far only development environment for embedded Linux coming from Germany will be extended by special PowerPC functions. This will extend the application range of the integrated development environment ELinOS and support not only Intel but also PowerPC processors. A first prototype of ELinOS 2.0 will be presented at the Embedded Systems 2001 in Nuremberg already with the new Linux Kernel 2.4.
